8 Common Family Tree Research Challenges And Their Solutions

 by: Chris Simeral

Every amateur genealogist is bound to hit a dead end every once in a while. Don t lose hope. The information you re looking for IS out there it just might take a little more digging to find it. Here are some common problems and their solutions — that trip up many family tree researchers:

1. Sorting out names.

Names can get you into a muddle if several of your ancestors share a name. Names were often passed on from one generation to the next, so you could find that three of your ancestors are all called James Clifton Sterling. Who’s who? If you’re confused about names, the answer is to talk to the older members of your family, NOW. This is a vital first step. If you don’t talk to them first, you’ll have to do it later. Ask for full names and nicknames, plus dates of birth, marriages, and dates of death of your ancestors. Ask whether anyone in the family has an old family Bible. You may even find that someone in the family has already traced his or her family tree, which will give a boost to your own searches.

Goodness gracious. The following lines can be an added advantage. Your nose for news would get a surprise in the sections that follow.

2. Where do I start? Which line should I trace?

This is up to you. If you try to trace all your ancestors, it will likely take years because of the huge number of people involved. Start with your own surname; the surname you were born with. If you’re a married woman, this means your maiden name. If you know your four grandparents, start with the family that used to live, or still lives, close to where you live now, because you can use the public library and the record s office in your area. If you don’t want to follow that line, then choose the rarest of the four surnames, because, ironically, a rare surname is often easier to trace than a common one.

3. I can’t find my great-grandfather!

Whenever you come to a complete dead-end, your first step is always to send for the birth certificate of the ancestor that you do know. Yes, it’s frustrating to wait, but when you receive the document, you’ll probably see why you were stumped. Let’s say you’re looking for your great-grandfather, Edward Thomas Carmichael, and he doesn t seem to exist. By sending away for your grandfather’s birth certificate, you may find that his father was David Thomas Carmichael. In other words, someone’s memory has failed them, and they gave you an incorrect name. This is very common; don t simply believe what your relatives tell you people often confuse names and places and one branch of the family with another.

4. Why is it so hard to find information on European ancestors?

Everyone who was born in England or Wales since 1837 should have had his or her birth registered by the state. However, it’s estimated that in some parts of the country, as many as 15% of all births were not registered in the decades after 1837, because there was no penalty on parents for failing to register until 1875. Also, some parents believed that it wasn’t necessary to register the birth if the child was baptized. Therefore, if you’re looking for your English ancestors, start with the birth registration. Genfindit at http://www.genfindit.com/ offers to find birth, death and marriage certificates for a fee. Alternatively, try these free resources:

* The English Archives Network at http://www.a2a.org.uk (Note: this URL will eventually be changing to http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a).

* FreeBMD, which lets you search birth, death and marriage indices in England and Wales from 1837 to 1902, with some records also up to 1983: http://freebmd.org.uk

5. I’m trying to find __________ and ___________ and ________ but I m getting nowhere.

Your problem here is a lack of focus. Always start with what you know: that is, with yourself, your parents, your grandparents, and your great-grandparents. Only after you’ve gathered all the names, dates and places of birth, dates of marriages, and dates and places of death for those who are deceased, should you attempt to go back further. Always focus on one branch at a time, and one or two names at a time. Once you have all the information on those, you’ll find that the information you’re looking for turns up and that there was really no need to stress over it in the first place. Also, remember to get proof. If someone in the family sends you a photocopy of great-great-grandfather’s birth certificate, that’s proof. But it’s not proof if someone tells you when and where they think he was born. You could end up tracing a branch of a family that you’re not even related to.

6. I spent hours at the library and I didn’t find a thing!

We all have days where the pickings are slim, and we feel as if we’re not gettinanywhere. However, consider that you did learn that your ancestors are not in those particular records. You’ve eliminated those sources, and it’s one more place you won t have to search in the future.

7. I have conflicting information.

This happens more often than you’d think possible. If the census documents say your great-great grandfather was born in 1840, the old family Bible says he was born in 1852, and burial records say he was born in 1848, which do you believe? When this happens, try and corroborate one of the dates from another source. Census documents can be wrong, as can the information in the family Bible. In the 18th and 19th centuries, many babies died in infancy. Sometimes another child was given the name of a child who died. Burial records can be wrong, too perhaps the undertaker made an error, or someone in the family gave the date incorrectly.

Although this is a praiseworthy report, I always get astonished if it assists individuals in any way.

It was a bliss for those who were looking for are all divorcees adulterers?. But few of them didn’t aide.

If you are looking for a write-up on are all divorcees adulterers?, you can easily decide about the reliability of the piece of literature. The basic point is to reach at the final word to skim the contents.

8. I can’t find the family in the census.

If you’re sure that your family lived in the county when the census was taken, but you can’t find them, there could be several reasons. Check:

* Alternate spellings.

* That you’re looking at the right county in the right state, several states have more than one county with the same name.

* The end of the county enumeration. If pages were stuck together when they were microfilmed, the missed pages were then filmed at the end of the county enumeration.

Don’t give up. It’s possible that the indexer made an error. Names were alphabetized incorrectly, or misread, or even omitted. If the census that you’re checking was indexed by several organizations, check to see whether your family appears in another index. It’s difficult for us to imagine how laborious it was to write everything and to make copies by hand.

8. I have two people in the same place at the same time with the same name: which is my ancestor?

This is a slightly different challenge from the above, “Sorting out names.” When you find two people with the same name in the same place at the same time, and either could be your ancestor, you’re going to have to examine the information, and perhaps gather more information, so that you can create a biography of these two people. Find official documents: did they own land? What about the census documents of that era? Can you locate a will for either of them? Study the information that you have, locate more information, and then work out which one was your ancestor. Certain names were popular in families, and in localities, because there was such a small marriage pool: people didn t travel far in the 19th century and earlier, because travel was expensive and difficult. Names were passed on from generation to generation. This makes it difficult for you, so many years later, trying to work out who’s who.

No doubts about the clarity of this excerpt, still the folks are uncertain about its assistance.

It assisted some of the folks who were searching for are all divorcees adulterers?. It was unproductive for some.

You can analyze the write-up in the best possible method. Scan it till the culmination point to notice its excellence.

My Father Who Art in Heaven

Filed under: General — Admin @ 1:01 pm

We are offering the detailed info on addiction as a spiritual disease. It could enhance your knowledge base. For an overwhelming and an unprecedented experience just scan the article in entirety.

I took one university course before discovering I was entitled to go into a Master’s Program at York University if I got over 75%-ile on the GMAT. With ten years successful business experience and by testing out of the Baccalaureate Level course (CLEP test). This one course was Logic. The professor got his doctorate by doing a thesis on ‘Giving and Do-Gooders’. On the day of the final exam I brought him a one page premise in support of ‘He who is least selfish, is MOST selfish.’. He read it while we wrote the exam, which I finished early enough for him to tell me all the things that were wrong with my premise. My best point in retort was ‘Why didn’t you consider this possibility?’ He was incensed and threatened like a lot of people who deal with my ‘know-it-allness’. After all, he had achieved his esteemed doctorate and I was just 29 in a first year B.A. class.

So why was I wrong? Why did it upset him so much? What could I possibly have known that made him avoid me like the plague when I saw him at the racetrack (horses, and he didn’t even acknowledge a wave) a couple of weeks later? How could I see something he hadn’t even considered or that his thesis guides hadn’t brought up? What value is there in an education where ‘do-gooders’ are diminished by egoists who don’t even observe that humanity has higher aspirations than mere selfish recognition in the mode of such arcane and abstruse ideologues and pedagogues as Hegel? I quoted Van Dyke’s poetry and Gibran (maybe the poetry and its’ heart touching rather than intellect enchanting appeal was the cause):

“There are those who as in yonder valley, the myrtle breathes its fragrance to the air. These are the children of GOD, and through them he smiles upon the earth!”

My sense of ‘Brotherhood’ was offended by his narcissistic pessimism but I smiled in the confidence that I was right. That annoying look of pomposity that comes from actually learning and being interested with an open mind rather than a sheepskin from fools who ‘think’ they are wise men. It could easily be said that this is arrogance and it has been said more than once. The reader may think that and if they have read this far in this book they are entitled to have that opinion of me. For myself I know I am a ‘fool’. THE SOUL is another matter indeed. Yes, I know there are many who give in expectation of return or in hope of building fences that obligate and manipulate others to recognize their specialness. The white picket fences of fantasies have confronted my search on more than one occasion.

Though this is one of the best articles, I’m bit doubtful about its efficacy for everyone.

It assisted particular readers who were looking for addiction as a spiritual disease. But few of them didn’t benefit.

You can assess this report if you are all hot for the facts on addiction as a spiritual disease. Go through this till the close to see if it works for you.

That was an unnecessary and obvious observation that I didn’t feel warranted anything more than a mere stipulation to its veracity. It was his whole thesis though buttressed by other ‘me-too’ scholars who can wend words and vacillate like moths to a flame or deer in the headlights of oncoming vehicles. I diminished its import as a stage like puberty in the becomingness toward bliss that comes from giving without need of return.

In fact the return of a favour isn’t something I would want as much as passing it along to others in need. But, there have been times when I know I’ve given and seen others try to negate either the gift or me, so maybe I haven’t always been so truly motivated at those times. As a child I had always valued true sharing and the model my father created in his simple and wondrous gift of friendship and respect to myself and my three brothers. He never felt any need (I could see, to the most part) to control or form us in his image vicariously or otherwise. He loved to hear us call him ‘JIM’! It truly was unusual and people often remarked on that fact.

No higher position in his cosmogony than enabling and learning from and WITH us! He was a soul who participated without prejudice in the many wonders nature (God) provides us all. In the end, I knew LOVE was there when I ‘let a bird go free’; if ‘it returned’ of its own accord and strong volition with hopes of adding to what I knew or sharing what it had helped others to learn - that infrequent treasure is the essence of what makes me proud. I knew it is not just in this world that we receive benefits or karmic reward. History is full of examples of those who gave openly being persecuted by those who take! Jesus, Socrates and Tesla were becoming even greater guides for my pursuit.

I was finding more than I ever thought there was in the words of Shakespeare and loved Victor Hugo’s appreciation of the bard when he talked about ‘glimpsing the waves of the marvellous’. I had no anthropomorphed or other entity that I could demand a hearing from in my prayers. No following, no cult, not even a desire to belong to most of the human race. I was wealthy in matters material. My goals had been met in most of the driven ways we seek recognition and it was only for those I wanted to share it with that I derived benefit. I spent money like a bandit waiting to be caught. Women had shown me things that I could never have learned in books. I had been able to know others thoughts and dreams when I was close to them. They were in tune with me on many occasions in the same way. My father had told me such things were possible. He called it ‘the pixie-mind’ and told me he loved how women could flit from topic to topic knowing each others feelings and not having to beat a subject to death with intellect. I had much more to learn - and was eagerly awaiting all that life would bring. Still - very much in stillness - I knew my life had quickened and taken a firm stand on the path towards Love and giving with no expectation of return. How could I accept his thesis that do-gooders pursue only self-gratification or Hegelian recognition?

Twenty years passed before I read Aristotle’s ‘Nichomachean Ethics’ and saw my ‘contribution dynamics of day to day life’ were therein contemplated. He had written this book in honour of his father, whose ethics had inspired him. Maybe that means society had screwed his father up a little in the matter of women too, I can’t say it comes through in this book and I know that lots of people have wanted to put these words into the mouth of great men so others would follow. My father had failed to find his equal in love and my mother was a schizophrenic. He never implicated to us that this was the way of women and it was a great sorrow to him that we might be negatively inclined towards women as a result. It did happen to my oldest brother in some weird ways that I cannot trace to my father. My own placement of women on a pedestal was no doubt partially due to a lack of a good female role model or trusted friend (that a sister might have supplied).

Like fine porcelain objets d’art, I marveled at their depth and beauties as if on a pedestal by the gods they had been placed. ‘Jim’ was long dead when I began to write in earnest in order to attempt to express the Joy of LEARNING he had encouraged in me. All the marvels, mysteries, experiences and loves of life (except having children) had been mine. I knew my writing skills were rudimentary at best. Big words and the gift of the gab are not all it takes. With little hope of capturing the essence in style, I proceeded to do what Jim could easily have done. His wit and style, his writing skills were plentiful. I had encouraged him to take this as his purpose before his life ended. There had been two years during which our time together centered on his impending demise in the physical form. That was due to my ‘occult’ study of things like palm and face reading (chirogamy and physiogamy). It was clear to me that he would die around the age of 65. Unless, and it is a big word, just like ‘IF’. Free will can over-ride the confluence of forces that create action if that free will is properly constructed with RIGHT THOUGHT. The best construct for me has always been helping others and giving. Thus I felt it would be for him. If he devoted himself to the path of giving to all of society the many things he knew that few apprehended. He was a truly educated man and could have been a Renaissance man if he had not devoted himself to our upbringing.

He said he had poor eyesight and had no desire to cheat fate. He was also quite unconvinced that such concepts had a high degree of fact and likelihood. Like me, he had always doubted and knew the value of such skepticism. He liked the idea of a spiritual cosmology that had a plan, purpose and consciousness in collective dimensional layers that harmonize. He knew I was not a follower and that my psychic experiences had been real for me. We all try to fool ourselves with massive rationale and wishful thinking. He did not accuse me of this, but he may have thought it - it was good to talk about his life and prepare myself. Saying how much he meant to me and my brothers for many times was a balm for my soul. There were so many things to thank him for and none of them were easy for him to listen to. In the end it was enough to honor his freedom and accept his choice to take whatever happened in stride. We put him in the ground the day after he turned 65.

All right! Do you believe this material aided you in developing your mental ability of addiction as a spiritual disease? I expect it did.

The different articles onhealth , may of great utility for you. It is for you to get the sources on health at the conclusion of this article.

He had a note in his wallet that gave me as the person to call in the event he died. I am the third born. He knew I knew what to say and that my story of where he was going was real and good. He had been given a clean bill of health to work after his retirement age just a couple of weeks earlier, before he went to the cottage for his vacation. He died of a heart attack and had crawled up from where he was working on the dock, as near as we can figure. He loved that place as much as he loved us. Years earlier he had visited me in Miami and we had time together as he thought about what he would do when he retired. His time in Miami Beach led him to say it was an elephant graveyard that could not be his ending place. I stopped foretelling death!

O.K. The endurance till this point strengthens the view that you are too much interested in addiction as a spiritual disease and health. Your unusual interest would get a treat in the paragraphs that follow.

Success is not my goal and no one should emulate me, it is a lonely and painful existence to be blessed with such insight. The gifts carry a heavy responsibility and separate me from those who I most enjoy. There is always the need even if I don’t want to, to reach out and help someone. Being outside the materially focused ‘reality’ and trying to change the world like Don Quixote can also become something of a bore, when all the little things one does are crushed in the mendacity of despair and disbelief that allows the ego to deny its soul. No, I expect NO recognition and I know there is hope to see and learn for humanity. In the end if my writing has an impact it will make me have to do things that will take me away from the constant proof of ancient lovers of life that I do enjoy honoring in these words. It matters little what others think (I take a lot of pride in what they do.) because I know my soul will suffer less and enjoy more, the fruits of all I have learned, wherever I go.

Filed under: General — Admin @ 1:02 pm

Why do we feel so firmly regarding Sex the Ring & the Eucharist? What is our perception in regards to Sex the Ring & the Eucharist?

We hope your longanimity to comprehend it carefully. To grasp the core ofreligion , explore it thoroughly.

Look for Books! The books that you pick to read with your child is very important. If you aren’t sure of what books are right for your child, ask a librarian to help you choose titles.

Introduce your child to books when she or he is a baby. Let her/him hold and play with books made just for babies: board books with study cardboard covers and thick pages; cloth books that are soft and washable, touch-and-feel books, or lift-the-flap books that contain surprises for your baby to
discover. Choose books with covers that have big, simple pictures of things that she/he sees every day. Don’t be upset if at first your child chews or throws a book. Be patient. Cuddling with the child as you point to and talk with great excitement about the book’s pictures will soon
capture her interest. When your baby becomes a toddler, she will enjoy helping to choose books for you to read to her.

As your child grows into a preschooler and kindergartner, the two of you can look for books that have longer stories and more words on the pages. Also look for books that have repeating words and phrases that she can begin to read or
recognize when she sees them. By early first grade, add to this mix some books designed for beginning readers, including some books that have chapters and some books that show photographs and provide true information rather than make-believe stories.

O.K. Just debar yourself from the other vernacular chain of info as this piece of article is among the best of the bests. Get additional benefits by flipping through the pages further.

Keep in mind that young children most often enjoy books about people, places, and things that are like those they know. The books can be about where you live or about parts of your culture, such as your religion, your holidays, or
the way that you dress. If your child has special interests, such as dinosaurs or ballerinas, look for books about those interests.

Okey-doke. Stop being a child, scratch the surface to get model article which can enhance your intellectual capabilities. Your craving for knowledge might get quenched in subsequent paragraphs.

From your child’s toddler years through early first grade, you also should look for books of poems and rhymes. Remember when your baby heard your talking sounds and tried to imitate them? Rhymes are an extension of that language skill. By hearing and saying rhymes, along with repeated
words and phrases, your child learns about spoken sounds and about words. Rhymes also spark a child’s excitement about what comes next, which adds fun and adventure to reading.

Okay. Stop being ignorant, read it thoroughly to get model write-up which may augment your intellectual capabilities. Just keep on reading, you’ll get some other awareness.

A confluence with david and bathsheeba Presentations

Presentation strength is something which you must embellish. A highly distinguished firm endorsed an event and a key person and industry trainer, whose concern is to give stuff on corporate presentations communicated his observations recently. The observations were about the david and bathsheeba presentation skills. The event was lacking even the essentials associated to the presentations.

The organization CEO made his presence realized behind the symposium rostrum. Nonetheless symposium lecterns were being considered as the hub of all workshops. The conference desks have repeatedly stirred up the arguments. You cannot forget the importance the presenter gets by following the conventional bible method. The colloquium platform might be a barrier between the orator and his patrons. Lately individuals have realized the worth of the PowerPoint david and bathsheeba presentations over the traditional bible system. Do not let this chance go waste!

The banner promoting the name and trademark of the investment firm was placed behind the CEO. The presentation also does not get advertised without bringing in limelight the sponsor’s name and logo. The distinct status of marketing banners gets lost in the absence of media coverage. In the surroundings of visitors, banners really don’t make for much. The orator can have varied backdrops and that too in aesthetic ways.

The screen and the projector were not harmonious with each other. If a large screen is used for the david and bathsheeba presentations, then the projector need to be powerful. Your incorrect choice of the intensity of the projector can hamper the impression being created by the corporate presentation. It spoils the reputation of the orator.

The slide quality was not according to the international norms for the global bible audience. If ever the presentations need to be amazing, the orator has to ensure the inclusion of descriptive graphs, decipherable text and must have competence in implementing dramatic ideas. To ensure you are providing professional PowerPoint presentations, only keep in mind to use graphics and animate your presentations.

Is America Losing Its Religion?

 by: Geela

Has America known its finest hour? Are we losing our religion and sanity as well? What is wrong with our society anyway? These are baffling questions that are frequently being asked by more and more people, even the media.

All right. You may feel contented to reconnoiter the subsequent paragraphs. Your further curiosity in this report would be an added leverage for you.

>From environmental pollution to spiritual pollution, from artificial food to artificial joy - these are the side effects of the pursuit of materialism (a by-product of the American Dream, as we know it). Today, everything is fair game in the pursuit of pleasure and avoidance of pain and personal responsibility, not to mention the absence of morality and a wholesome values system.

Is America at risk of reaching a point of no return, or worse becoming a third world nation? According to universal laws, it*s all a simple matter of cause and effect or as it*s been said *as you sow so shall you reap.* What we are witnessing is the powerful consequences of these laws from which no one is exempt.

We live in a time characterized by a modern battle between good and evil which can be defined as limited awareness (the norm) and integrity and enlightenment (which are the exception). It*s a time when chaos and anarchy are the order of the day. While technologically we may live in a space age, morally we are still living in the stone age as reflected in our social ills, the failure of our systems and institutions and the growing conflicts both domestically and internationally.

This stuff is exceptionally superb still some readers are uncertain about its gains.

It assisted selected folks who were searching for Sex the Ring & the Eucharist. But few of them didn’t benefit.

Only you have the intelligence to be the finest critic of this article. Traverse till the last word to explain about its importance.

One of the greatest human tragedies is not the lack of resources and/or control over our own circumstances, but rather the lack of awareness. Whether we realize it or not, the current climate of insanity, including terrorism, is a reflection of a moral and spiritual crisis. It*s indicative of our denial of our own spiritual roots and the perception that we are separated, which eventually leads to conflicts and even wars.

Well. Be positive that your probe would go ahead of this point. Continue reading, there are more things to follow.

An engineer can look at the foundation of a building under construction and tell you its eventual height and even fate of a structure. Similarly, a society is as strong and free as the pillars of the spirit upon which it*s built. Spiritual roots are the foundation upon which total prosperity and peace and harmony are built. When we reject concepts of spirituality, integrity and morality - we also deny the greatest part of our existence (our spirit) which enables us to prosper and experience a fuller life of meaning, purpose, real joy, fulfillment and peace (inner and outer). By so doing, we also deny our access to the ultimate real and positive power, the ever-present force (God) that builds and doesn*t destroy. That*s because we are spiritual beings experiencing the human experience and not the other way around. As such we were designed and meant to live a life of meaning and purpose through spirit and integrity beyond the narrow boundaries of the material world. In a materialistic-driven society wherevanity, not virtue, is worshipped, all the things we used to hold dear like, religion, marriage, family, loyalty, faithfulness, hard work, and being of service to the community are no longer sacred. Instead consumerism, in the spirit of *He with the most toys lives,* rather then *He with the most joys lives,* is promoted and driven by profit and greed to the point that even a holiday like Christmas is now more of a marketing concept and devoid of any real meaning.

The media, especially Hollywood, is also at fault. Rather than celebrating excellence and the human spirit, by promoting positive concepts such as personal responsibility, making a difference, tolerance, kindness, giving and sensitivity to the human condition, the media produces shows and movies that celebrate human weakness, vanity and perversion. These productions promote social ills such as anti-social behavior, excessive self-indulgence and entitlement, instant gratification, greed, corruption, compromised integrity and obsession with external, shallow values, including the obsession with fame, fortune, and youth. This has led to a significant increase in substance abuse, senseless violence in our schools, and increased teen suicide.

You can blame it all on the pursuit of the American Dream, as we know it, which is an illusion based on a materialistic values system characterized by corruption, greed, compromised integrity and the erosion of morality whereby the love of power overcomes the power of love. It certainly does not represent the true spirit of America, which was based on perspiration, innovation, risk and reward and where the focus used to be on a strong work ethic, high integrity, family and community. All of which created a nation of producers with an enviable prosperity that created real joy and fulfillment.

It*s obvious that America has gone off track and is in desperate need for healing and revival if we are to maintain a free and thriving nation, not to mention our leadership in the international arena. The solution to restoring our spirits and our economy is through increased awareness and by reconnecting with our spiritual roots. Awareness can be used as a useful tool to better understand the unity of life, our place in the universe and ourselves. By understanding ourselves better, we come to understand God as the source and the destination.

In other words, everything we do must be driven by spirit and spirit-filled. That*s because we are spiritual beings experiencing the human experience and not the other way around. As such we were meant and designed to live a life of meaning and purpose by recognizing the unity of life and living in harmony with the universal laws that are characterized by integrity and the honoring of all living things. In this way we can actually produce real hope, real joy and fulfillment, real peace (both inner and outer), ultimately leading to total prosperity in the true spirit of the American Dream.
